Sample messages
About a 2-3 minute read.
The campaign form asks for example messages that show what your agent will actually send. At least one sample is required, and you can add up to three. Reviewers read them closely and use them to check that your use case, content toggles, and disclosures all line up, and carriers compare them against your live traffic later.
What your samples need to do
Across the samples you provide:
- Cover the use case. If you registered Mixed with more than one kind of messaging, show at least one example of each.
- Show the brand name in every sample. A generic "Your appointment is tomorrow" with no brand gets flagged.
- Include opt-out language in at least one. "Reply STOP to opt out" in the body.
- Match the content toggles. If you turned on embedded links, at least one sample should contain a URL; if it's off, none should. Same rule for phone numbers in the body. A mismatch here is a common rejection, and because those toggles define the campaign, fixing one means re-filing. See The campaign form, field by field.
- Be in English. Reviewers don't translate; a non-English sample is rejected before the content is even read. You can send other languages in production once approved.
- Stay clear of banned content. See Banned and restricted content.
What good samples look like
Scheduling reminder
Hi Sarah, this is Example Assistant with a reminder of your appointment Tuesday 3/12 at 2pm. Reply C to confirm or call (555) 123-4567 to reschedule. Reply STOP to opt out.
Brand named, concrete (not a string of placeholders), opt-out present. It has a phone number, so the "phone numbers in the body" toggle should be on.
Marketing offer
Example Assistant: spring booking is open. Reserve a session by 4/1 and save on your first month. Details: example.com/spring. Msg freq varies. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
Brand named, clearly promotional (matches a Marketing use case), opt-out present. It has a URL, so the "embedded links" toggle should be on.
Account notification
Example Assistant: your account setup is complete and your agent is live. Manage settings at example.com/account. Reply HELP for help.
Brand named, account-relevant, HELP referenced.
Support reply
Example Assistant: thanks for reaching out. A team member will respond within one business day. For anything urgent, call (555) 123-4567.
Brand named, fits a Customer care use case.
What gets samples rejected
No brand name. "Your appointment is tomorrow at 2pm. Reply C to confirm." The reviewer can't tell who it's from.
Doesn't match the use case. A campaign registered as Account notifications with a sample like "Get 25% off your next booking, use code SPRING25." That's marketing. Register as Mixed and add Marketing, or drop the sample.
Contradicts the toggles. A sample with a URL when "embedded links" is off. Because the toggle defines the campaign, this is one of the slower fixes, it means re-filing.
Public URL shorteners. Links like bit.ly or tinyurl are blocked on registered traffic because carriers can't see where they point. Use the full URL or a branded shortener on your own domain.
Banned content. Anything on the restricted list, even shown only as a sample, sends the whole campaign back. See Banned and restricted content.
Another language. Reviewers evaluate in English. Keep samples in English even if your audience isn't.
Specific values beat placeholders
Reviewers are trying to picture the message a person will actually see, so concrete is better:
Hi Sarah, your appointment with Dr. Patel is Tuesday 3/12 at 2pm.
over
Hi {first_name}, your appointment with {provider} is {date} at {time}.
If you need to show that fields are dynamic, do both, a filled-in version plus a note on which parts vary.
